A Local Print Shop With a Lot to Say
Atlantic Printing and Design was recently featured on the Shop Jersey Shore podcast. The episode was hosted by Lisa Mazzuca of On Your Mark Designs, a digital marketing agency based in Bayville, New Jersey. Erick, a key team member at Atlantic Printing and Design, was interviewed about the company’s history, services, and growth.
The full episode is worth a listen. A lot of ground was covered, from new equipment to community involvement to the personal stories behind the business.
Three Locations Serving the Jersey Shore
Atlantic Printing and Design operates out of three locations. Toms River and Ocean Township anchor the northern part of the service area. The newest location is situated in West Creek, down in the Eagleswood Township area.
Together, these locations allow the company to serve customers across both Monmouth and Ocean County. Clients from Long Beach Island are also served regularly, particularly as the summer season approaches.
The Move to West Creek Was a Big Step
A good portion of the conversation was focused on the recent relocation to West Creek. The new space was previously a state trooper barracks. It now serves as the company’s main production hub.
The move was driven by a need for more room. Production capabilities had outgrown the previous Manahawkin location. The new facility was planned around workflow efficiency, giving each team member more space to operate.
New equipment has already been brought in. More is on the way.
Printing Is More Than Business Cards
Erick was asked to walk through the range of services offered. The list is longer than most people realize.
Commercial printing covers business cards, brochures, flyers, envelopes, and folders. Books and booklets are also produced in-house, including trimming and binding. Large format printing now includes banners, posters, and mounted canvas prints.
Recently, embroidery and direct to film garment printing were added. These services are now handled entirely in-house at the West Creek location. Minimum order quantities are small, making these options accessible to individuals and small businesses alike.
Promotional items are also available for clients preparing for trade shows or corporate events.
DTF Printing Explained
During the episode, some time was spent explaining direct to film printing, or DTF. It was compared to the more familiar screen printing process.
Screen printing works well for large runs with one or two colors. DTF is better suited for smaller quantities and designs that involve many colors or complex artwork. A photograph or detailed illustration on a shirt, for example, is a strong candidate for DTF.
The process at Atlantic Printing and Design is toner-based. It does not require ink to dry between steps, which speeds up production. Durability is rated at 40 to 50 washes, which is comparable to screen printing.
Perfect Binding Is Coming Soon
A perfect binding machine is also being added to the West Creek facility. Perfect binding is the process used to finish magazines and softcover books, where pages are glued along the spine.
Previously, finished pieces had to be sent out to a third-party finisher. Bringing this capability in-house will reduce turnaround time and lower costs. Atlantic Printing and Design also plans to offer this service to other local printers that do not have the equipment themselves.
The Company Was Built on a Simple Idea
Owner Jovi Flores immigrated from the Philippines and started a printing business in 1989. It began as a franchise operation based out of Lakewood, New Jersey. Through the years, mergers and acquisitions brought together what is now Atlantic Printing and Design, representing eleven companies in total.
The foundation of the business has always been straightforward. Meet or exceed customer expectations. Provide a simple service with a smile. That approach has guided the company’s growth from a small shop to a multi-location operation serving clients across the region and beyond.
Small Jobs Are Never Turned Away
One moment from the podcast stood out. Erick described a customer who had been turned away by several other area businesses before calling Atlantic Printing and Design. The request was for just a couple of custom t-shirts.
The job was accepted, completed, and the customer was satisfied. That philosophy, of finding a way to help rather than defaulting to no, runs throughout the way the company operates.
Rooted in the Community
Atlantic Printing and Design is not just a business serving the Jersey Shore. Many on the team live here. That connection to the community shows up in the work the company does for local nonprofits, PTAs, and civic organizations.
Sponsorships and donated printing have been provided to groups like the Eagleswood Elementary PTA. Memberships are maintained with the Ocean County Business Association and several local chambers of commerce.
